It is just another in the many forms of depression. Manic depression is not the same as just being sad or upset for over something in particular. Manic depression is far more sinister. Typically, some type of depression yearly affects around 17 million Americans. Two thirds of those people will never seek medical attention or even a diagnosis. Nothing can be cured if the victim doesn’t go for help. Mental illness is a red stop sign for many Americans, they don’t want to deal with it. The negative image of someone who is nuts is just too much for them. Diseases that affect the brain have always been very complicated. When diagnosed there is a stigma that isn’t easy to handle. But it’s not a sign of being less when this disease is diagnosed. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. This is a disease like any other. If it’s identified it can be cured. The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession. It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities. Doctors take into consideration many things such as biological factors, the environment, and DNA. We know that it seems to be caused by a chemical imbalance on the brain. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Daily life brings stress, period. Work related issues or the dynamics of a dysfunctional family can create it. Depression knows no bounds. It’s a disease for rich people and for poor people. It is not racist. Color or nationality provide no protection from this illness. The symptoms for all forms of depression are quite similar. These include mood swings from happy to sad and serious personality switches. Insomnia is another symptom for depression. Helpless feelings, or feelings that the future holds no hope are signs. Depression is real when it interferes with your ability to live your life. There is hope for depression sufferers. You can find help. Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it. Psychotherapy can also help. There are also many support groups that will help you deal with the disease. The first step in the cure is seeking the assistance.
