Does Your Child Need Children’s Vitamins?

Mental Health Issues No Comments »

This question has been has been tormenting parents all over the world. Yet, there are no easy answers to it. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)says that “a diet based on the Food Guide Pyramid provides adequate amounts of all the vitamins a child needs.” But then, there are a lot of other factors that decide whether your child is getting adequate amounts of vitamins, such as the child’s eating habits, composition and quality of the diets, etc.

One important thing to note here is that the quality of most foods available now has declined. The only good ones available now are organically grown food. Just look at these figures: the amount of calcium in broccoli has fallen by a whopping 50 per cent, the iron content in watercress is down by a steep 88 per cent, the vitamin C in cauliflower has fallen by a huge 40 per cent… You may not be giving your child the usual fare of refined food spiked with sugar and fat and carbohydrates. Yet, there is no guarantee that he or she is getting her required daily dose of children’s vitamins.

Still experts disagree much on this subject of children’s vitamins. The AAP advises giving your child a vitamin supplement only if your pediatrician recommends it. That is because most of the daily foods are fortified. However, the AAP acknowledges that a daily dose of children’s vitamins won’t hurt your child unless it exceeds the recommended daily allowance for any vitamin or mineral. Also, such a daily dose of children’s vitamins help fill in any gaps in a child’s nutrition, and also helps children who are sensitive to certain foods. What is to be borne in mind here is that children’s vitamins cannot replace good food. They can only supplement your child’s food. If your child is not eating well, you should not only give him children’s vitamin supplements but also take steps to improve his eating habits and his diet.

Oh yes, there is one more reason why you should be giving your children a proper diet. Recent research says diet and behavior are interlinked. The Appleton Central Alternative High School replaced vending machines with water coolers and started offering fresh vegetables, fruits, whole-grain bread and a salad bar in place of the hamburgers and french fries. The result: No longer does a police officer patrol the school’s hallways, there is no vandalism, there is no litter.

Go for food-based children’s vitamins

Now comes the important question. What kind of children’s vitamin should you give your child? You should start with a food-based vitamin. No questions about that. Synthetic vitamins are out. Scientists and doctors now prefer to use natural vitamins. This is where glyconutritionals come in. They are foods and nutritional supplements that provide saccharides along with other glycoforms essential to the body. Glyconutritional blends are made from fruits and vegetables and contain the essential vitamins, minerals, and other vital nutrients, and provide support for the body’s immune system.

The saccharides in glyconutritionals are necessary for proper ‘cell-to-cell’ communication and helps keep the body’s glands and organs functioning well. They also help the immune system and the endocrine system in top order, and the body in optimal health.

Worried about how you will make your child swallow all those pills? Well, children’s vitamins and nutritional supplements now come as delicious, multicolored, flavored, chewable tablets. Your children will eat them up just as they eat up the junk foods and candies!

Practical Tips On How To Deal With Anxiety

Depression No Comments »

A sufferer from depression often sees themselves as being phony or guilty of having deceived others in one way or another. Nonetheless, a conversation could reveal that no such thing has happened. That’s when their mind begins to play tricks on them. Yes, it’s all always the mind playing games with us. If this happens to you, fight it. Don’t allow your mind to take you over, instead take it over and dictate the pace.

Depression sometimes gets to the point of psychosis. When such symptoms hit you, they illustrate that you have gotten to an especially harsh point of the illness. Even sessions with a shrink alone might not suffice to cure you; you might need to be committed, at least for a while. At such moments, only YOU can assist you by working to steer your mind, deliberately, from negative thoughts to positive and more empowering thoughts. Trust me, it works!

There are instances in which genes have been known to influence depression and cause remarkable activity in the brain. Host of people do not know this, and spend all their lives being angry at situations for making them the way they are. But the truth remains that there are host of examples where the “depressed by inheritance” folks have effectively controlled the depression all their lives and never allowed themselves to be depressed for long periods of time.

Bipolar disorder is a derivative of depression. Identical twins likely will have this in common between themselves, more so than you might expect in regular twins who aren’t so alike. This is not exactly about the twin genes; more about the fact that some folks often inherit depression from parents.

There’s a lot that could be learnt from the work of famed psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud who referred to major depression as melancholia. He called it a response to loss in any sense you choose to perceive it. Much of his work, in any case has received much acclaim, so there has got to be something right about that.

Depression often causes you to focus on negativity. Whatever the circumstance, all you tend to see are the negative aspects of any position. Of course you will misinterpret facts and present them in negative ways to anyone who would care to listen. And if there is no one interested, you speak to yourself and blame them. And then you blame yourself also, and it would go on and on. Work hard on yourself so that you don’t give negative events or thoughts any room to grow in you.

Depression can stem from negative thinking. As a matter of fact, it does most of the time. When you suffer, you tend to blame yourself for negative events in your life, and even in the lives of others.

You have perhaps seen this happen a million and one times and it occurs every single day somewhere in the world. Someone loses somebody and suddenly they become emotional wrecks themselves. It’s depression, and in that particular instance, there’s nothing wrong with it. What’s wrong is when you dwell on the emotion for way too long.

Social scientists have observed that younger people also are experiencing depression in ways that was only attributed to adults in the past. They have proposed many explanations, but no one is quite sure that they are accurate until more figures and statistics have been realized. Some of the potential explanations include changes in family structure, urbanization, and reduced cultural and religious influences.

How Do You Stop The Stress And Worry?

Stress No Comments »

I recently attended a dinner where a franchise owner of a fast food restaurant spoke. The owner had been in business for several years, 25+, and told of some of the trials she encountered along the way. She was a very engaging speaker and I enjoyed it very much. After she spoke it was question time. A person in the audience was the owner of a one-year old hair salon. Her question was, “How do you go home and not take the stress and worry of the business with you?” The speaker’s answer was, “you always take it home but something that would help is to turn off your cell phone.”

Well, I agree with what she said about turning off the cell phone but there are other processes that came to my mind where the owner might benefit also. Here are some of my thoughts:

Do you have a business plan? If not, start today and put your vision and dreams in writing. It will help you to see the objectives that need to be achieved.

Join a CEO Roundtable group. It helps to meet with others that have the same type of issues.

If no CEO Roundtable, bring in a professional you can trust. Whether it is a business coach, advisor, or financial advisor. Do not hold back on the cost of good advice. They will become your confidante and friend, and will bring good advice and guidance for your business and you personally.

If you do not want professional help, reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce. They usually have a Small Business Center and have access to information that will help you to work through different processes in running a business.

As a business owner, I truly believe in a business plan. I have one for my business also. Mine is not for borrowing money but for giving me guidance as I try to grow my business to the level I have projected. I also have a marketing plan that is in constant state of change. Planning will not stop the stress and the worry, but it will help you to know what your next step is in the process. It helps to have your plans in writing, in your words, and share it with others. They are adaptable to the ever-changing growth and curves in your business. Refer to them frequently (monthly is good, weekly is awesome!). It is unbelievable how many businesses start without a plan. Start today! You have probably heard this—

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

Listed above are no sure-fire cures for stress and worry but it is a start on knowing what you need to do to accomplish your dreams. If you feel you are not heading in the right direction, modify your initiatives and plans. Dream big and plan to succeed!
